Captain's Challenge
Points mean prizes
The Captain's Challenge has been a beloved tradition at the club for many years, offering a series of social rides throughout the year that bring large groups of CDRC riders together for unforgettable cycling adventures.
Running roughly once a month from March to November, the rides that make up the Captain’s Challenge include the 100-mile Randonnée, the Coast to Coast ride (which can be completed in one day or over two days with an overnight stop), the Hill Climb and Freewheel Challenge, and the Hilly Randonnée.
This challenge is all about participation, not speed, making it a fun and inclusive event for riders of all levels. Points are awarded for each ride, and the rider with the most points at the end of the year is awarded the prestigious Bob Potts Trophy.
Join us for the camaraderie, the challenge, and the chance to earn your place in club history!

Social Events
To mis-quote Lance Armstrong, it’s not just about the bike.
We believe it’s important for members to come together in a relaxed, social setting from time to time. While events are typically organized on an ad-hoc basis, we do have a few regular gatherings that help strengthen our club community and provide a fun, informal way to connect off the bike.
Whether it’s a casual meet-up or a special occasion, there’s always a chance to enjoy each other's company and build lasting friendships.
Our end-of-year awards evening doubles as a festive Christmas party and is usually held at Clevedon Sailing Club. It’s a time to celebrate the achievements of the year, with club trophies presented to the winners across various categories, including racing, time trialling, track, hill climbing, and cyclo-cross. These awards are available for men, women, U18s, and U16s, along with trophies for attendance, audaxes, freewheeling, the Captain’s Challenge, the Merit Shield, and more.
Just before Christmas, we also organize a short Sunday morning ride to a local restaurant, where members gather to enjoy a hearty breakfast together—Christmas jumpers are often spotted at this event!
Looking ahead, we’re excited to plan a summer party in 2025 at the home of one of our members, which we hope will become a regular annual tradition.
On a more frequent basis, we host restaurant evenings and a "Pub of the Week/Fortnight/Month" (depending on interest). These gatherings provide a relaxed setting for members to enjoy an informal drink, chat, and connect.
As the weather warms up, we’ll aim to coordinate these events with evening rides, making it the perfect way to wind down after a ride.

Overseas Trips
Since 2023, we've been organizing an annual autumn trip abroad, offering members the chance to ride in new landscapes and enjoy great weather. The trip typically spans 6 nights, split between two hotels, allowing for a variety of exciting rides and routes.
While the first three trips have taken us to various regions of Spain, we're looking forward to exploring new destinations in the future, ensuring a fresh experience each year for those who join us.
Our cycling trips typically depart from Bristol Airport, with members booking their own flights once the dates are confirmed.
We partner with a professional cycling tour operator who takes care of all the details. They recommend and book suitable hotels, arrange transfers, provide suggested riding routes, and organize local bike hire. For those who prefer, bringing your own bike is always an option.
The cost of the trips can vary depending on the choice of hotels, meal plans, and other factors, but past trips have generally been priced around £700, plus the cost of flights.
Previous trips have taken us to popular cycling destinations such as Mallorca and Murcia, with 2025's adventure set in the stunning hills of Andalucia.
The tour party typically consists of around 20 members, which allows for the creation of riding groups based on similar abilities—just like our Sunday Club Runs—ensuring a fun and sociable experience for all.
